The P90X Experience: Week 4

December 7th, 2009 | by KyleTweet This

p90xAs expected there were no beautiful women with Martinis in Week 4, however, there were some new things that I experienced that I must say, am disappointed that I did not figure out a program much like this one before.

Throughout this entire program it has been fairly easy for me to draw parallels to my workouts in the past. Going through any of the numerous workouts that focus on weight training I have found it easy to see that, when broken down to its basic form, the routine is nothing more than a super-set workout with little to no rest period. I myself have done such a workout, however, find it laborious when you are in the weight room and the gym is occupied by more than yourself and a spotter. It’s also kind of embarrassing to be running back and forth between machines hoping to get your set done before someone else needs to use the machine (I certainly yield the machine if I am simply super-setting). However, this week, this “Recovery Week,” has been something else altogether.

I expected this week to be full of relaxing meditation, stretching, and refocusing your energy in order to get ready for phase 2. Week 4 had all of those things and more. The extra day of yoga was excellent for clarity of mind (if you want to know why yoga does this, you’ll have to ask Dorian) and the stretching day was relaxing and without pressure. After three weeks of high intensity and high impact workouts I have begun feeling added strain on my joints and have welcomed the days where nothing but stretching takes place. There was, however, a mind-blowing workout.

Core Synergistics. This workout is all about engaging your core throughout the entire workout while burning calories and allowing your body to feel the natural strain of a full body workout. For me, this is a new (ish) concept. I am, being a big fan of weight lifting, a big proponent and preacher of isolating desired muscle groups. It has been the way I’ve trained for years and I haven’t had any weight lifting injuries and have made plenty of gains.

However…

This is a revolutionary idea that will, most likely, change my philosophy (slightly) on fitness training. Engaging your entire core while stressing different parts of the body simultaneously gave me the best workout next to the plyometrics workout of this entire program. I will further explore the use of Core Synergistics in my daily routines and will have modified it to suit my liking long after this program has ended. After Week 3 I was feeling a bit down about the program, but Week 4 has renewed my faith.

I too took the p90x plunge. Keep up the hard work. At the specific chiropractic center and that something coaching program we have had about 10 to 12 people going through it together. The rest weeks were awesome....but somehow feel as if you arent doing anything. Good Luck.

    Hello Lorenz,
This video "Whatever Happens, Don’t Give Up…" opened my eyes like never before. Man, what a guy! It's people like these the world needs.
Love your site, Lorenz! Like you, I was frustrated with the amount of information to be found on the net and books, but which never seemed to be complete, you know? Food is as important as the exercise, yet many instructors at gyms only want your money, and they don't bother to tell you about nutricion.
    Thanks a million!
Wishing you a very nice day and stay healthy,
    Erik

Erik, thanks a lot for the kind words. Means a lot. Yeah, that video really moved me too. It's amazing what one person can accomplish when they set their mind to it.
